Two High School indivdual winners and one High School TEAM project will also qualify to be nominated to the International Science and Engineering Fair.

Special Awards

These awards will be distributed to projects that meet the guidelines that have been stipulated by the awarding organization or agency.

Mu Alpha Theta Award for the most challenging, thorough, and creative investigation of a problem involving modern mathematics. Certificate Senior – Individual or TEAM
NOAA’s “Taking the Pulse of the Planet” Award goes to one individual whose research emphasizes NOAA’s mission to understand and predict changes in Earth’s environment and conserve and manage coastal and marine resources to meet our Nation’s economic, social, and environmental needs. Certificate and Medallion Junior or Senior Divisions
Yale Science and Engineering Award to the most outstanding eleventh grade project in computer science, engineering, physics, or chemistry Preliminary Certificate with Formal Certificate and medallion to be sent in July to recipient 11th grade student
Outstanding Projects awarded by the U.S. Navy/U.S. Marines Certificates, Award Letters, Senior and Junior
U.S. Metric Association Award for the project that involves a significant amount of quantitative measurement and best uses the SI metric system. Certificate Senior or Junior

Association for Women Geoscientists Award for female student whose project exemplifies high standards of innovativeness and scientific excellence in the geosciences, illustrate the interdisciplinary nature of the geosciences, or promote the sensitivity to the earth as a global system. ASM Award for Most Outstanding Exhibit in Materials Science Certificate and Medallion Junior or Senior
American Psychological Association Certificate of Award for outstanding research in behavioral or social sciences. Certificate Junior or Senior
American Meteorological Society for Outstanding Achievement Certificate Senior, Individual or Team
United States Air Force Awards  Awards – Certificate and Medallion Senior and Junior
National Society of Professional Engineers for the most outstanding engineering project. Certificate, Lapel Pin, Junior or Senior
Society for In Vitro Biology Certificate 11th Grade
U.S. Public Health Service Award for projects that creatively illustrate and expand upon the topics: regular physical activity for good health; healthy diet for healthy weight and long healthy life; tobacco use is hazardous to your health; and injury and illness prevention saves lives. The Equine Health Program from the College of Veterinary Medicine at North Carolina State University Award       $100 and tour Senior grades 9-12
