Girls in Science Outreach Educator position available this spring with the N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences; applications due March 4th
Enthusiastic and reliable educator to develop and deliver career-focused and science-based Girls in Science outreach programming for middle school girls. This position will involve designing and leading a hands-on afterschool educational program for underserved populations at a downtown Raleigh middle school. Program will meet once weekly for roughly eight weeks March – May, 2019 (the program will likely begin at the end of March). This is a grant-funded outreach program that will run for one spring season.
  • Develop interactive, engaging and hands-on programming for a group of 20-30 middle school girls that introduces them to careers in STEM, using Museum resources
  • Work with teachers at the school to plan program schedule and logistics, including start and end dates, meeting times and one planned Museum field trip
  • Serve as a positive role model to a diverse group of young girls
  • Commit to weekly meetings with additional planning time as needed
  • $1,600 stipend, taxes withheld
  • Experience in formal and/or informal learning environments, environmental education and program planning
  • Interest in and passion for science and STEM careers
  • Experience working with middle school students and/or underserved youth
  • Ability to serve as a positive role model to a diverse group of young girls
  • Creative thinking and strong interpersonal/organizational skills
  • Good work ethic, ability to work independently, responsibility, promptness and professionalism
  • Reliable transportation
