Kelly Ficklin

The position of District Director for Region 4 is very important to me because as a leader in the STEAM field, it is critical to take responsibility to create a safe environment in which students, teachers and educational leaders develop a passion for science education throughout the state of North Carolina. It is my mission to provide opportunities for all stakeholders to engage in science conversations and educational opportunities by offering support and a voice where educators feel safe to exchange ideas and advance quality STEAM instruction. The competitive future of our students depends on the strength of our STEAM curriculum and the innovation of engaging practices and building self-efficacy for students and educators to become scientific thinkers. If elected, I will strive to promote sound STEAM education by providing support for STEAM educational leaders and I will advocate for equitable funding, the implementation of innovative practices and building networks of support within North Carolina.

Dr. Laura Bottomley has more than 35 years of experience teaching STEM at all levels, pre-K through graduate school, all over the world. Referred to as Dr. B by her students, she engages those same students in bringing STEM activities to places in the world like Rwanda and Puerto Rico.
