District 2 Director
Michelle Hafey
I would like to serve as the NCSTA District 2 Director. Science Education is important to me and I want to be in a supportive leadership role. I am a National Board Certified Teacher in Early Adolescent Science. I was a member of the 2016-2017 Kenan Fellow Cohort and I am currently serving on NCSLA's Science Leadership Fellows Cohort - 2020-2022. I spent 22 years teaching middle school science before taking the position as University Program Associate for the Center for Education in STEM (CESTEM) four years ago. At UNCW, I support STEM Education in the surrounding area by loaning Technology Equipment to teachers (and pre-service teachers) to use with students for classroom instruction through CESTEM's Technology Loan Program. I am actively involved in the professional learning opportunities CESTEM provides for teachers (and pre-service teachers) in the Southeast Region. I also assist with the Regional Student STEM Competitions (Science Fair, Science Olympiad and SeaPerch) that CESTEM hosts each year. I understand how important it is to keep District 2 informed of Science Education Opportunities available in NC. It would be a pleasure to represent District 2 at the required board meetings throughout the year. I welcome the opportunity to be the liaison between science teachers and students within District 2 and the state-wide organizations. I am available to participate in the NCSTA Professional Development Institute and I would be happy to solicit teachers from District 2 to present at the yearly conference. It is my goal to share with the state all of the wonderful things that District 2 is doing with Science Education.
