District 1 Director
Kelli McDermott
Biography
My name is Kelli McDermott. I graduated from the University of Phoenix with a Bachelors of Environmental Science and got my teacher license through the Alternative Teacher program. I have been teaching for 4 years and currently teach Earth and Environmental Science at South Central High School. I am also the current District 1 Director of the North Carolina Science Teachers Association. Before I became a director for the NCSTA I was presented as the Rising Star in the NCSTA’s Reflector newsletter. I am also the advisor for the National Math and Science Honor Society at my school. I have a strong passion for Earth Science and love learning new discoveries about our planet to teach to my students. I enjoy being part of the NCSTA because I get the opportunity to meet new people every year and learn all the different ways people teach science. The wealth of resources and knowledge the science community brings to the NCSTA cannot be quantifiably measured, but can be measured in the passion that science teachers have. I love sharing my passion by contributing to the NCSTA as much as I can.
Mission Statement
As the continuing District 1 Director, I will work harder to promote the NCSTA and improve on my network building skills. I want to see the NCSTA grow more successfully by trying to reach more of the East Coast of North Carolina. Even though I have already been with the NCSTA for a year, I still feel like I have a lot more room to grow and wish to have the opportunity to improve. My hope is to make an impact on the science community to the point where I will be the go-to person for resources, information, and guidance for teachers in science.
