Nominee:  Dr. Carrie Jones

Biographical Information on Nominee

Dr. Carrie Jones is known as a strong advocate for the advancement of science education, both within the state of North Carolina and nationally.  With nearly twenty years of classroom experience, she is recognized for her innovative instructional style and ability to engage students in authentic learning experiences that incorporate contemporary instructional technologies, critical thinking and project based learning.  Her willingness to share her expertise is evidenced by her participation in a variety of professional development activities and numerous presentations at local and national education meetings.

Carrie is nationally board certified and currently teaches at Middle Creek High School in Apex, North Carolina.  She holds a B.S. Biology and a Master of Education, Science Education from Ohio State University.  She earned a Master of Education, Educational Leadership from the University of Cincinnati and a PhD in Science Education from North Carolina State University.

Carrie has served as District Director for the National Science Teachers Association and currently holds the position of NSTA High School Division Director.  As a long-time member of the North Carolina Science Teachers Association, she has served on the organization’s administrative board for many years, including two terms as a District Director and two terms as Treasurer.  She was elected President Elect in 2015, presided as President in 2016, and is currently finishing her term as Past President.

 

Mission Statement

As an 18-year veteran and current classroom teacher, I continue to seek opportunities for networking, leadership, and promoting the science education profession.  Having knowledge of the board, NCSTA, and ties to NSTA will help continue to lend stability to the organization and to carry on its goals.   In the role of secretary, attention to detail and being a good listener/communicator are a must.  As secretary, I will continue to promote the goals and mission of the organization
