Tom has been an active member of NCSTA since becoming a teacher 16 years ago,this includes making presentations at our Professional Development Institute. Tom is in his eleventh year as a science teacher at Henderson County Early College, in Flat Rock, NC. In addition to his instructional duties he has served the past eight years as the head coach for the Science Olympiad team and is a North Carolina Science Leadership Association fellow.

Mission Statement

As an NCSTA district 8 representative, my focus will be strengthening communication within our district of professionals and promoting our association. This will include publishing a regional quarterly newsletter showcasing successful labs/activities conducted by our members. We have so many talented science teachers and I enjoy learning from others; sharing best practices serves all levels of teaching experiences. The newsletter will also serve to announce upcoming professional development opportunities and recognize teachers who have won grant awards, promotions and other exciting news. Most important goal for me as your Region 8 Director will be building our membership and reaching out and supporting our new science teachers. It would be an honor to serve as our district representative.

Dr. Laura Bottomley

Dr. Laura Bottomley has more than 35 years of experience teaching STEM at all levels, pre-K through graduate school, all over the world. Referred to as Dr. B by her students, she engages those same students in bringing STEM activities to places in the world like Rwanda and Puerto Rico.
